We will swim in the turquoise waters of the Xcanahaltun cenote and later in the afternoon we will walk through the streets of the beautiful city of Valladolid. The cenotes, perhaps the most interesting natural attraction in Yucatán, are not only important to local hydrology, providing sources of fresh water in a region where surface rivers are scarce, but they also have important cultural significance for local Mayan communities. These bodies of water were considered sacred by the ancient Mayans and were used for rituals and ceremonies.
